The Travel Team

This summer I read the book The Travel Team and loved it.  It is a book about a kid named  Danny and his troubles with basketball.  Danny enjoys playing basketball and is having a lot of fun with it.   But the local travel team, the Vikings, cut him from the team which he played on the prior year, because of his size.  Danny still wanted to play basketball, so he and his dad, a former NBA basketball player, made a team called the Warriors.  They took all the players who didn't make the travel team.  Through this book, you learn about this team and how they come together to beat the Vikings.

I enjoyed this book because the novel drags you in early and makes you not want to put the book down.  I like reading about the basketball games especially when it comes down to the final seconds.  The Travel Team helps you get to  know the characters which makes the book a lot more fun to read.

You can still read this book if you are not into sports.  I highly suggest reading this book if you like action, suspense with a little comedy mixd in.

  1. So, Nicky, Mr. Mahany said that you really liked this book - and I'm glad because I like Mike Lupica a lot. There are a bunch of other writers who are terrific who either were sports writers like Lupica or who clearly were on teams. Lupica has a bunch of other books, and you shoudl maybe try books by John Feinstein, Dan Gutman, Chris Crutcher, David Klass, or Carl Deuker.

So many excellent authors, so little time (and I have a bunch of these in the classroom library, so there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for coming to free reading Mondays without a book like you did this week. SO not okay.

Who do you think you would like to read next?
